Castle Fuels (2008) Inc. is happy to be a sponsor for the Interlakes BCRA Rodeo! Held annually on August Long weekend since 1990, this rodeo boasts 4 hours of fun and entertainment each day. From bareback riding, barrel racing, team roping, steer wrestling and bull riding, to mutton busting for the juniors, concessions and vendors – this event is sure to be fun for the whole family!

History:

Recognizing the need for a permanent exhibition area in a place where stock exhibitions are an important part of the rural lifestyle, the Roe Lake + District Recreation Commission members went about getting the steps in place to see this new attraction come to life. In 1989, 4.0 acres of land was purchased across from the Rodeo grounds.

Grants were acquired and the work of evening out the land began, with every loader and excavator in the area moving the earth to provide a flat land for the grounds. Recognizing that there was too much to move in the given time-frame, they brought in Katchmar Construction out of 100 Mile House to help get the job done, and the ground was successfully leveled out.

Modelled after the Calgary Stampede, they then brought in used steel casings for the arena, stock holding pnes and gate systems from an equipment yard in Savona. Outhouses and ticket booths were built at the Interlakes Building Supply lumber yard. A tractor and auger were used to drill holes for the steel posts, and once they were in the community and surrounding areas were called in to paint.

These 4 months proved a challenging feat, with obstacles and doubters along the way, but they prevailed and brought this vision to life. After 4 months of work, the grounds were complete, and the first rodeo was held on July 1st, 1990!

They have since continued making improvements:   they constructed an 18 stable pole barn with used hydro/telephone poles, built wash racks behind the barn, the wooden stands were replaced with metal stands, and they plan to build a new concession building in the coming years. The grounds continue to be a site for the BCRA rodeo, are used by local barrel racers and team ropers, by ranchers for moving cattle, and also provide a dry campsite and R.V. Site for functions at the community hall.
